Interview: Arrows of Love
Published on July 2nd, 2012 | Jonny Abrams
Arrows of Love release their new single “Honey” next week, so we fired them over some questions in the hope of finding out a little more about the whole operation. First, though, get a simultaneous earful of and butcher’s at “Honey”…
How did you all meet, and how long has the band been going for?
Nima was selling acid in lower Clapton by the pond where he bumped into mike and exchanged him a tab for his bicycle. They went on a trip together and found Lyndsey hanging by the side of a massive mushroom and made friends, they all came across an ivory tower where Nuha was trapped and needed a giant to help rescue her and that’s when they saw Oli licking the side of a toad under a tree and asked for his help. Once he rescued her they realised their paths must’ve crossed for a reason, they found a book by William Blake read it before they fell asleep by the jet garage and decided they should form a band and call it Arrows of love.
How would you describe your music, if pushed?
Loud loud quiet loud quiet loud loud.
Where are you based, and what do you use to record with?
We’re based in east London, we Nima’s basement to record our album. And Q base.
Are you signed to a label? If so, how did you come to their attention?
We’re not signed.
Is there a full album in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it? (Feel free to be as abstract as you like!)
Yes there is, we have an album that will hopefully be out end of this year/start of next. It’s best not to say too much about the subject of it and let people find out for themselves.
Where can we hear your music online?
You can hear our new single “Honey” at www.arrowsoflove.co.uk
Which have been your most exciting gigs and/or overall moments so far?
Camden Crawl gig and last night of our Macbeth residency were probably most recent favourites.
Got any more coming up? (Gigs, that is…)
We are touring the UK through July, check our website for dates [Rocksucker says: or see below!]. Our single launch is on the 11th of July at the Shacklewell arms in Dalston, London.
Are there any obscure and/or up-and-coming acts that you’d like to recommend or give a shout-out to?
We have a few between us, I’d say Victorian English Gentlemens Club, Black Manila, Fat White Family and Dogfeet.
Finally, if you were forced to spend the rest of your days in solitary confinement, but were allowed to bring the entire works of two different artists along to tide you over, whose would you choose?
Nuha: Nick Cave without a moments hesitation.
Mike: Juana Molina.
Arrows of Love, thank you.
