NewTube: Max Cooper, Living Things, Throwing Snow, The Good Natured, Chromeo

Rocksucker is constantly being introduced to new music; some of it is forgettable, some of it is downright rotten, and some of it is blinding. Allow NewTube to guide you gently by the hand through the best stuff that’s landed on our lap of late, then get your bloody hand off our lap and use it to conduct further research into the following currently active artists…

Max Cooper

The “classically-infused minimal electronic producer” cranks out colourfully glitchy numbers that really get our juices flowing. This video for his remix of Hiatus’ “Third” was made by Spanish designer Vicetto and uses special ‘generative’ technology to tie the sound particles into the movement on your screen…

Remix of Hiatus’ “Third”

Pretty cool, huh? Max apparently has a large following in Germany and recently headlined Electrowerkz with support from erstwhile Rocksucker interviewees Ghosting Season. After watching the above video, we then checked out his website and found this wonderful, twinkly, shuffly thing (dig the “abstract higher-dimensional shapes”)…

“Echoes Reality”

If you like this stuff, then we strongly urge you to also check out Crewdson. For more information about and sounds by Max Cooper, please visit maxcooper.net

Living Things

Living Things

A trio of brothers from St. Louis whose sound has been described as “ferocious political punk” and “noir-ish psychedelia” – those unlikely bedfellows, eh? – Living Things snared our attention with their blaring, blasting, catchy-as-fun new single “Fake it Baby, Fake it (La Dame Nature)”, which you can listen to right here on Spin’s website. We then delved further and were delighted to discover that, sonically, you can’t pin these chaps down. Check out these choice cuts, which indulge jittery dub and nocturnal demi-trip-hop amongst other whims…

The prosaic band name didn’t inspire us with confidence initially but, damn, it’s true what they say about judging books and all that. For more information about and sounds by Living Things, please visit livingthingsband.com

Throwing Snow

Throwing Snow

London-based producer makes his debut on Local Action with an “ice-cold” three-track EP, conjuring ghostly samples and jittery beat-mongering to soothe minds and souls during the bleak midwinter upon us. Why, here are clips of each track…

Chromeo

Chromeo

An electro-funk duo from Montreal, Chromeo are winding down from a year of intensive touring following the release of last year’s acclaimed third album Business Casual, and recently teamed up with Solange Knowles, younger sister of Beyonce, to give this superb performance of “When the Night Falls” on NBC show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

“When the Night Falls” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

As night falls earlier and earlier around us this December, you’ll have all the more time and reason to throw on this digi-funk belter. For more information about and sounds by Chromeo (including the official video for “When the Night Falls”), please visit chromeo.net

The Good Natured

The Good Natured

We interviewed The Good Natured mainlady Sarah McIntosh back in June, just before her band supported The Killers at Hyde Park and headlined Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing Stage on back-to-back days, and most recently they were taken on tour as support for fellow recent Rocksucker interviewee Oh Land. This latest pop gem, titled “Video Voyeur”, should consolidate their ascent…

“Video Voyeur”

With an album on the way and a Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance penned in for January 23rd, 2012 could see The Good Natured edge ahead of the meek in the race to inherit the world.
