Showcase: Dark Bells

“Is everyone in Australia a member of a fantastic psychedelic rock band these days?” That’s what Rocksucker asked when we made “Wildflower” by Dark Bells one of our singles of the week earlier this month, but it turns out this shoegazey Sydney bunch upped sticks to London and are currently in the midst of a series of UK shows including an appearance at Field Day in Victoria Park, why, today! We fired them over some questions to find out more…

How would you describe your music, if pushed?

It’s a combination of aggressive sounds tamed with light nice tones moulded together.

Where are you based, and what do you use to record with?

We all live in east/north-east London. GarageBand gets used a outside of the studio a whole lot!

Are you signed to a label? If so, how did you come to their attention?

Not yet, we have had our first single release out on Tape Club Records with some more singles to follow this year.

Is there a full album in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it? (Feel free to be as abstract as you like…)

We have a full album’s worth written and have done for some time, we have songs left over so the most flowing will be used once we are in the position to record it in full.

Where can we hear your music online?

You can watch/listen here: darkbells.co.uk/music

Which have been your most exciting gigs and/or overall moments so far?

Our show at the Roundhouse was certainly a standout, it was great to play to a much larger crowd similar to playing a support show for a bigger band, although on the other hand the single launch was great, to feel a crowd there for you.

Got any more coming up? (Gigs, that is…)

Many starting from the 23rd may:

23rd May – Hoxton BK – Cloud Control support
24th May – Shacklewell Arms
25th May – Field Day festival
27th May – Hoxton BK – Headline Show
29th May – Sulk support in Harrogate

Are there any obscure and/or up-and-coming acts that you’d like to recommend or give a shout-out to?

My personal favourites are The KVB and Sulk.

Finally, if you were forced to spend the rest of your days in solitary confinement, but were allowed to bring the entire works of five different artists along to tide you over, whose would you choose?

DARK BELLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dark Bells, thank you.
