New Flaming Lips album: details of The Terror revealed

New Flaming Lips album update! Hot on the heels of last year brain-frazzling collaborations album The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, Oklahoma’s finest have announced that their next official studio LP The Terror will be released on 1st April through Bella Union in the UK and Europe, Warner Bros in the US.

Check out the artwork…

Apparently there’ll also be a non-album track titled “Sun Blows Up Today” available on 3rd February, while dates at London venue the Roundhouse have been announced for the 20th and 21st May. Wayne Coyne says of The Terror

We want, or wanted, to believe that without love we would disappear, that love, somehow, would save us that, yeah, if we have love, give love and know love, we are truly alive and if there is no love, there would be no life. The Terror is, we know now, that even without love, life goes on… we just go on… there is no mercy killing.

Er, yeah. Basically, their last album proper – 2009’s Embryonic – was such a bolt-from-the-blue masterpiece that Rocksucker is still recovering from the glorious shock of it, so goodness knows what The Terror has in store for us. We still can’t believe how underrated 2006’s At War With the Mystics remains, and everyone should know by now how great The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots are by now, so this is a band in a rich vein of form (albeit they have been ever since 1990’s In a Priest Driven Ambulance.
