Review: Loverproof at The Nest, Dalston
Published on December 5th, 2012 | Jonny Abrams
Classically trained, Lebanese/Irish songstress Ciara Haidar returned to familiar territory in Dalston venue The Nest last Friday, and however much confidence that must have instilled went very nicely indeed with the faith that she and her band mates clearly have in their soaring, sophisticated power-pop.
Drummer David Talisman and bassist Gavin Bowers are inspired choices of collaborators, consummate musicians that they are, but the eyes of a strong Nest audience were of course fixed mainly on Haidar, totally commanding and unwavering in her performance, standing behind her keyboard and belting out instant hits such as “Take Me Over”, “See the Light” and the calypso-y “Learning About Us”.
Loverproof has been nominated in the MTV Brand New for 2013 Unsigned category, so don’t be too surprised if you find you and your friends singing along to one of the aforementioned songs on a night out sometime next year. [Initiate cheesy closing line sequence] The girl’s got talent, and this performance was proof positive. [End cheesy closing line sequence]
