Showcase: Promethee
Published on November 23rd, 2012 | Jonny Abrams
Geneva rockers Promethee are already working on their second album having only just released their debut, so Rocksucker fired some questions over to them to find out a little bit more about how they operate…
What’s the line-up of the band? How did you all meet, and how long has the band been going for?
The band composition is the following: Joshua Orsi (Vocals), Ludovic Lacroix (Guitar), Elric Doswald (Guitar), Mathieu Tappolet (Bass) and Nils Haldi (Drums). Ludo, Nils and Elric met a long time ago, back in the school years and were joined by Josh and Mathieu in late 2007. The band officially started in 2008 with our first shows.
How would you describe your music, if pushed?
Our music is a mix of all the genres we listen to, all kinds of metal but not only. We try to put a lot of emotion in what we’re doing and the result is something between traditional metal/metalcore, hardcore and progressive.
Where are you based, and what do you use to record with?
We’re located in Geneva, Switzerland and we did use a lot of different material: Ibanez, ESP/LTD, Fender guitars and basses, Mesa Boogie, EVH, Ampeg amps, Tama drums, and all sorts of cymbals.
Are you signed to a label? If so, how did you come to their attention?
We did release our EP with Swiss label Bad Mood Records and we are now releasing the vinyl version of our album with them. They are friends of ours and they helped us a lot since the first hours.
Is there a full album in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it? (Feel free to be as abstract as you like…)
After releasing this debut album we now are already working on the second album. We are keeping with the same search of innovative sound adding some more grooving pattern and experimenting with new things.
Where can we hear your music online?
Lots of places! You can listen us on Facebook, Myspace or services like LastFM, Spotify and of course our several videos on Youtube.
Which have been your most exciting gigs and/or overall moments so far?
I’m hesitating between many. The Greenfield Festival in 2010 when we opened the fest on the main stage was definitely one of the biggest experiences so far but we keep extremely good memories of many other shows like the release party of our album on 13th October 2012 or our week-end tour with The Prestige (FR) in early 2012.
Got any more coming up? (Gigs, that is…)
We’re currently in the middle of our Release Tour 2k12 in Switzerland and France and we’re working on new tours and project for 2013 across Europe and hopefully North America.
Are there any obscure and/or up-and-coming acts that you’d like to recommend or give a shout-out to?
We have a couple of big shows coming up in Switzerland on 1st December in Nyon where we will celebrate the release of the vinyl (www.facebook.com/events/535999986416262) and on 21st December in Moudon, co-headlining with Dagoba (FR) (www.facebook.com/events/302816153126868).
Finally, if you were forced to spend the rest of your days in solitary confinement, but were allowed to bring the entire works of five different artists along to tide you over, whose would you choose?
I guess my personal selection would be: The Faceless, Dream Theater, The Architects, Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa.
Promethee, thank you.
