Review: Blacklisters – BLKLSTRS
Published on May 3rd, 2012 | Jonny Abrams
Leeds four-piece Blacklisters sure know how to conjure up one heck of a debauched rock and roll racket, and while it can be near-impossible to discern what the blazes front man Billy Mason-Wood is singing, screaming, barking, roaring or shrieking about, song titles such as “Club Foot by Kasbian” (most assuredly not “Club Foot” by Kasabian), “I Can Confirm That Ruth Abigail Holmes Is Not Dead and Is Planning To Make a Movie About Her Life” and “Ask Yourself a Question If The Answer Is Go F*ck Yourself” suggest that it’s got to be good.
Blacklisters are a very tight band indeed, best displayed when they wig out on unusually punctuated tangents, and that this is undoubtedly thrilling in a live setting might explain how they landed support slots with Melt Banana, Rolo Tomassi and Hawk Eyes, not to mention going on tour with Pulled Apart by Horses, Kong and erstwhile Rocksucker interviewees Japanese Voyeurs.
BLKLSTRS + strong coffee = day thoroughly underway; this is thrillingly unhinged stuff, so approach with caution and enjoy in sensible doses.
